The Festival Marketplace in Dillon, South Carolina, transformed into a space of reflection, gratitude, and community pride as VFW Post 6091 organized a Purple Heart Recognition Ceremony on August 7, 2026. This event honored our brave service members who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Six Purple Heart recipients were in attendance, each with their own story of sacrifice and courage.

The guest speaker at the ceremony was Enrique Murillo, a former Special Forces member and Purple Heart recipient. His personal insights resonated with the audience. He shared his military experiences, the challenges he faced during and after his service, and the resilience it took to overcome them. His words served as a profound reminder that the Purple Heart represents more than just a medal, it symbolizes extraordinary bravery and the lasting costs of combat.

The event garnered significant support from the community, including Representative Hayes, Mayor McColl, local civic leaders, VA Healthcare representatives, fellow veterans, citizens, and families. Their collective presence highlighted the strong bond between Dillon’s veterans and the community they continue to inspire.
