On July 11th, members of Dillon County VFW Post 6091 gathered in Bennettsville, SC, for meaningful events honoring our military members. The day began with the National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Program, hosted by the Marine Corps League of Bennettsville. Past Post Commander John Harlow of VFW Post 6091 emceed the program. This important event paid tribute to those who bravely served in the Korean War (1950-1953) and remembered the eight Marlboro County soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during this conflict. Their names were read aloud, followed by two tolls of a bell after each name. During the ceremony, remarks were made by SC Representative Jason S. Luck and Bennettsville Mayor Tyron Abraham. After the ceremony, members of the Post visited the SC ANG Unit in Bennettsville.

Post 6091 participates in the VFW Adopt-a-Unit program, which is part of the Military Assistance Program (MAP). This initiative connects VFW Posts with local active-duty, Guard, and Reserve units and provides support during deployments. It helps organize family events, send-off ceremonies, and welcome-home gatherings. The Post has adopted the 1053rd Transportation Unit and has received funding from the VFW National Headquarters to provide lunch for the soldiers during their drill weekend. The unit leadership was also presented with a certificate and a letter from the National VFW Leadership. During the visit, Post members engaged with the soldiers and shared information about resources the VFW can assist with.
